Two explosions followed by gunfire rocked the diplomatic enclave here Thursday night, a security officer said.
The area of the blast is close to the Tajikistan embassy.
The incident occurred in Kabuls's Wazir Akbar Khan area, Xinhua quoted police spokesman Hashmat Stanikzai as saying. The gun battle stretched late into the night.
Meanwhile, a source said that the attackers also fired towards the residence of First Vice President Abdul Rashid Dustam.
