Hockey India (HI) Tuesday appointed Matt Eyles as the scientific advisor of the national junior men's team.
Eyles will aim to make the team physically and mentally fit for the upcoming FIH Junior Men's World Cup to be held here Dec 6-15.
HI secretary general Narinder Batra said the appointment of Eyles is an important step towards ensuring the proper fitness levels.
"Our junior men's team has performed well at the recently concluded Sultan of Johar Cup. So I am sure Mr. Eyles will play a key role in the physical and mental fitness of our players, as they prepare for the major tournament," Batra said.
On his appointment, Eyles said: "I am looking forward to working with the Indian team, there is a lot of potential there and together the coaching staff will bring that potential out in each athlete."
Eyles has previously worked with the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles (Australian rugby club) for almost two years as strength and conditioning coach.
