A group of farmer unions on Wednesday decided to present two Bills - intended to ensure remunerative prices to agriculture produce and loan waiver to distressed farmers - in Parliament, with the step receiving support from several political parties.
All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee (AIKSCC) said efforts will be made to pass the 'The Freedom from Indebtedness Bill 2018' and 'The Farmers' Right to Guaranteed Remunerative Minimum Support Prices for Agricultural Commodities Bill 2018 at least in the Rajya Sabha, as per a statement.
MPs Raju Shetty and K.K. Ragesh will introduce these bills in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, respectively, as Private members' Bills.
AIKSCC held in a Round Table here on Tuesday to create legal entitlements for farmers on issues of indebtedness and lack of remunerative prices.
Several opposition leaders including Congress' Mallikarjun Kharge, Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar, former Janata Dal-United leader Sharad Yadav, National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah, Communist Party of India-Marxist leader Sitaran Yechury and Shiv Sena MP Arvind Sawant participated in the meet.
