At least two members of a family, a man and his daughter, died on Friday after the family consumed poison, police said. The wife of the man was admitted to a hospital in critical condition.

Bhagwan Dass, 50, and Sarita, 20, died in Khera Dabar area of south Delhi, while his wife Sharda, 48, was admitted to Rao Tula Ram hospital, the police said.

"A call was received at 7.16 a.m. regarding suicide," Deputy Commissioner of Police (South West) Surender Kumar said.

Dass and Sarita were declared brought dead by the doctors, the officer said.

According to the police, the family was depressed after their son Kuldeep, studying MBBS in Russia, died 15 days ago following a heart attack.

The police also recovered a seven page suicide note from the house.

In his suicide note Dass wrote, "his son (Kuldeep) had paid about Rs 30 lakh and Rs five lakh through demand draft to few people to get admission into MBBS in 2014 in Russia."

"But in 2015 his son got admission on his own merit and after appearing in his first year examination Kuldeep returned to India during his holidays and met the people to whom he gave the money for admission. But they refused to return the amount," Dass said in his suicide note.

Dass in his letter also alleged that the money was given to Alok Sinha and Nadeem, both residents of Noida. He has also mentioned the names of the few offices located in outer Delhi's Rohini and Burari area.
