A middle-aged man and his daughter died after they were knocked down from their bike by a speeding bus in West Bengal's Howrah district on Sunday, police said.
"Naim Ansari, 52, and his daughter Neha Ansari, 22, were crushed under the wheels of the speeding private bus after after they were knocked down from their bike near Moukhali in Howrah district's Jagacha," said a senior officer from Jagacha police station.
According to the police, the accident happened as the bus was over-speeding in an attempt to compete with other buses in the same route.
"The two were taken to Howrah district hospital where they were declared dead," the officer said.
Police have seized the bus while the driver and the helper managed to flee.
"The accused driver and the helper of the bus fled from the spot after the accident. We are looking for them," the officer added.
