Rescuers on Thursday found the flight data recorder (FDR) of an Indonesian passenger plane that crashed on Sunday killing all 54 people onboard, the transport ministry said.

The ATR-42 turboprop plane, operated by Trignana Air, hit Mount Tangok in Bintang district of the country's Papua province while flying from Jayapura to Oksibil on August 16.

The device was found at 12:58 p.m. (local time) by rescuers from the search and rescue office and members of the national transport safety committee or KNKT, Julius Arivada Barata, spokesman of the transport ministry, told Xinhua.

He said the FDR has been transported to Jayapura, capital of Papua province, and will be flown to the KNKT office in Jakarta on Friday for analysis.

The device was found two days after rescuers retrieved the cockpit voice recorder, one of the two black boxes of the plane, at the crash site.

The bodies of the 49 passengers and five crew members aboard the aircraft have been recovered and taken to a hospital in Jayapura for identification, officials said.
