Brazilian left back Filipe Luis is set to return to Atletico Madrid just one year after leaving the Spanish club to join Chelsea.
Reports in both Spain and England say the two clubs have agreed on a fee of around 22 million euros (around $24.5 mn), about the same Chelsea paid to sign the defender a year ago, Xinhua news agency reported on Tuesday.
The 29-year-old left Atletico after helping them win the La Liga title and reach the final of last season's Champions League, made just 15 appearances for Chelsea, where Cesar Azpilicueta, a right back playing on the left, was the preferred choice of Chelsea boss, Jose Mourinho.
While Chelsea are now thought to be looking at Augsburg's 21-year-old Ghana international Abdul Baba Rahman as a replacement, Felipe Luis becomes Atletico's fifth signing of the summer, following Montenegrin central defender, Stefan Savic, who on Monday underwent his medical with the club.
Felipe Luis's return could open the door to further departures from Atletico with Guillermo Siqueira, who was first choice left back for this season being made available for transfer should a decent offer arrive for the former Granada and Benfica stopper.
