Former England defender Rio Ferdinand has called upon his ex-colleagues at Manchester United to prevent Leicester City from winning the English Premier League (EPL) title at Old Trafford this weekend.

Leicester are at the top of the EPL table with 76 points from 35 matches, seven points ahead of second placed Tottenham Hotspur. A win against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday will see them secure the EPL title.

But Ferdinand, who represented Manchester United in 312 matches from 2002 to 2014, asserted that his successors at the former EPL champions must ensure that Leicester do not win the title at their home ground.

"Not at Old Trafford, we're not having that. It's not a nice feeling when a team wins at your ground, but wherever they win it, they deserve it this year," the former central defender told talkSPORT on Wednesday.

Manchester United are currently fifth on the table with 59 points, five points behind Arsenal and Manchester City with a game in hand. A win over Leicester on Sunday will keep their hopes alive for bagging a top four finish and qualifying for next season's Champions League.

Ferdinand however, also praised Leicester and opined that they deserved to win the title. He also praised Leicester manager Claudio Ranieri for galvanising the team which was battling to stave off relegation last season.

"They've been the best team, they've been strong and really, really good unit and I think you sense that they've got a really good team unit and a good spirit amongst them," the 37-year-old said.

"The manager's galvanised them."
