No.3 seed David Ferrer cruised to victory Sunday in the fourth round of the Australian Open and booked a berth in the quarter-finals.

The Spaniard defeated Germany's Florian Mayer 6-7 (5), 7-5, 6-2, 6-1, reports Xinhua.

After dropping the first set in the tie-break, Ferrer bounced back to win eight of 15 possible break points.

Ferrer committed 43 unforced errors, but was aided by Mayer, who ended up with 49 unforced mistakes.

It is the fourth straight time that Ferrer has reached the quarter-finals at the Melbourne Park and ninth consecutive time at a Grand Slam tournament.

Ferrer reached a career-high ranking of No.3 at the end of last season and achieved his highest-ever seeding at the Australian Open.
