At least six people were killed in fires as people in China celebrated their traditional Lantern Festival, the ministry of public security said Saturday.
A total of 2,581 fires were reported in China Friday, the festival day, reported Xinhua.
The Lantern Festival, which marks the end of the half-month lunar new year celebrations, traditionally features outdoor celebrations by lighting and hanging lanterns and fireworks.
Nearly 33,500 firefighters were dispatched nationwide to spot fire risks, the ministry said.
