Feyenoord attracted Khalid Boulahrouz on a free transfer from the Danish club Brondby IF, the Rotterdam based club has announced.

The 32-year-old defender underwent a medical examination Monday and signed a one-year contract, with an option for another season, reports Xinhua.

"I am very happy," Boulahrouz said on the club's website." Feyenoord is a great club. I am very proud that I can wear this shirt."

Boulahrouz started his career at RKC Waalwijk in 2001, followed by adventures at Hamburger SV, Chelsea, Sevilla, VfB Stuttgart, Sporting Lisbon and Brondby IF. He was part of the 2006 and 2010 Dutch World Cup squads and was also active at Euro 2008.

Saturday Feyenoord announced an agreement with Southampton on the departure of Graziano Pelle. The 28-year-old striker follows coach Ronald Koeman to the Premier League club. Fred Rutten is in charge at Feyenoord this season.
