FIFA intends to perform sex tests for all participants in the Women's World Cup to be held next June in Canada.

The world football governing body aims at getting rid of suspicions unleashed in the previous tournament, played in Germany in 2011, where there were allegations that three players of Equatorial Guinea national team were men, reports Efe.

Doris Fitschen, a representative of the German national team, downplayed the imposition of these tests, stressing that the all 23 members of the German football team are women.

The debate on the sex of the athletes broke out following the case of South African athlete Caster Semenya, whose appearance seemed like a man and raised suspicions about her sex.
