Actress Madeleine Martin, who has been associated with showbiz since she was seven, feels age plays a vital role in creating gender gap in the entertainment industry
The 23-year-old says people of the industry are not interested in older women, but at the same time, "older men are regarded as fascinating".
One keeps on hearing about the gender divide in the entertainment industry. So, when Martin was asked to describe the gender divide, she pointed at the role age plays in this debate.
"The industry seems uninterested in older women, yet older men are regarded as fascinating," Martin told IANS over an email from New York.
Known for her role of Rebecca "Becca" Moody on American comedy drama series "Californication", which airs in India every Monday to Friday on AXN, Martin said: "I love the freedom of my character in the show which is gradually evolving. I transformed throughout the course of the show from being an actor fulfilling a function into using the show as a creative outlet for whatever I was experiencing at the time in my life."
The Emmy Award-winning show takes you on a journey of a fast-living novelist Hank Moody who leaves the literary haunts of New York for the pleasure seeking splendours of Los Angeles, but now his personal life is in shambles, his career is on the brink of self-destruction and he still just can't stop yielding to every temptation.
The channel is airing season one to six as a tribute to "Californication".
