Finland is all set to export electricity to neighbouring Russia on Sunday, the first time in the Nordic country's history, media reported.

The initial 13-hour feed on Sunday will amount to 320 mw, Xinhua news agency reported.

Finland and Russia had signed an agreement last year making exports possible.

Timo Kaukonen, head of planning at the Finnish national operator Fingrid, told national broadcaster Yle that the export is possible mainly because of the lower price in Finland.

The current price level can be attributed to the availability of hydro power, increasing input of windpower and nuclear power plants working at high gear, Kaukonen said.
