Cross-FIRs were lodged Saturday against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Kumar Vishwas, a Congress leader, and their supporters after an altercation between members of both parties in Uttar Pradesh's Amethi district, an officer said.
The FIRs have been lodged with regards to a scuffle that broke out between the two leaders and their supporters late Friday after Congress leader Munna Singh intercepted Vishwas's 'jhadu lagao, beimaan bhagao' campaign at Durgapur square in Bhadar block.
The Congress leader told the AAP leader, who would be contesting the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls against Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, not to vitiate the atmosphere of "his area".
The matter was sorted out by locals and the two leaders went their own ways only to come again later with their supporters, who almost came to blows with each other.
Following the skirmish, AAP supporters staged a sit-in at the Allahabad-Faizabad national highway.
The First Information Report was first lodged by Munna Singh. In retaliation, the poet-turned-politician also lodged a cross-FIR against the Congress leader.
Police said that since cross-FIRs have been lodged, they would now ascertain the veracity of the allegations by both parties and proceed accordingly.
