Fire at Kolkata factory, no injuries

A manufacturing unit of wooden utensils here was gutted in fire on Wednesday, a fire brigade official said. No one was injured.

A major fire broke out in the manufacturing unit in north Kolkata at around 1 p.m., a fire brigade officer said.

"The unit makes wooden spoon and other utensils. The fire spread quickly as plenty of inflammable material was stored in the unit."

The officer said the situation was critical as the place was congested and there was high possibility of fire spreading to other adjacent establishments.

Several fire tenders were pressed into service and worked for almost two hours to put out the fire.

 

"The reason of fire could not be ascertained yet," the official said.
