A fire broke out in a city branch of the public sector Syndicate Bank here on Friday, prompting the fire brigade to evacuate residents from a congested south Kolkata multi-storied apartment, police said.
There were no reports of any casualty, and the flames in the Camac Street branch were controlled by five fire tenders.
Disaster management team of the Kolkata police were rushed to the spot.
The extent of damage and the cause of the fire were yet to be ascertained, but a police source said it could have started from the air-conditioning system.
