A fire broke out in Sriganganagar-bound Toofan Express on Monday but no one got injured as the train crew were quick to detach the affected coach, an Railway official said.

"Fire broke out in the parcel coach of 13007 Up Udayan Abha Toofan Express at around 4.10 p.m. The driver, Bidyut Mondal, detected the fire, stopped the train and immediately separated the parcel van from other compartments and the engine," said a senior Eastern Railway official.

The train was travelling from West Bengal's Howrah to the Rajasthan town.

"There was no injury or casualty to any passenger. Only the parcel coach was affected in the fire that occurred between Mugma and Thaparnagar stations of Asansol division," he said.

The official said a separate engine was called in after the incident to take the train back to Mugma, from where it left for its destination after the lines were cleared.

"We are investigating how the parcel van caught fire," he added.
