India's fiscal deficit for the period April-September 2016 touched 83.9 per cent of the budgeted figure, as per figures released by Controller General of Accounts (CGA) on Monday.
According to CGA data, the fiscal deficit-difference between revenue and expenditure - for the first half of the current fiscal - touched Rs 4.47 lakh crore as against the budget estimates of Rs 5.34 lakh crore for the full fiscal 2016-17.
The total receipts for the government stood at Rs 5.79 lakh crore while the total expenditure (plan and non-plan) stood at Rs 10.27 lakh crore.
Of the total receipts, the tax revenue was Rs.4.48 lakh crore.
The revenue deficit for the period under review stood at Rs.3.25 lakh crore which was 92.1 per cent of the budget estimates.
