Five people were arrested Saturday for hurling bombs at a raiding police team Friday that left three cops injured in West Bengal's Birbhum district.

Additional Superintendent of Police Ananda Roy said: "We have arrested five people for the attack. A court remanded them to 14 days' judicial custody. Their interrogation has yielded some more names involved in the attack. They will be arrested soon."

The attack took place when a team led by Panrui police station officer-in-charge Prasenjit Dutta raided a block health centre in the area where crude bombs were stored.

Three policemen, including Dutta, were injured when they were attacked with bombs, sticks and bricks.

Police seized 17 plastic drums full of crude bombs from the health centre.

The attack came over a month after workers of the ruling Trinamool Congress allegedly roughed up an officer inside the Bolpur police station in the district.
