Five Indian nationals from a family, including two children, were killed and two minors were injured when their car plunged 200 metres down a gorge in Nepal on Sunday, police said.

The jeep in which the family from Jharkhand were travelling skidded off the road in an accident-prone area at Simkhola, Kulekhani on the Kathmandu-Hetauda route in Makwanpur district, according to Superintendent of Police Sisu Sharma.

Ghanshyam Prasad (60) and Deviyanti Devi (63) died on the spot, while Basantosh Teda (60), Riya Barman (10) and Piyas Barman (10) -- all members of a family from Ranchi -- succumbed to their injuries in a Kathmandu hospital.

The injured children -- eight-year-old Aryan Barman and 12-year-old Rishi Barman -- were undergoing treatment at Vayodha Hospital in Kathmandu.

There were seven people in the car when the accident took place, but it was not immediately known who was driving the vehicle which was on its way to the capital Kathmandu.
