Five Keralites were among the nine passengers killed when nine coaches of the Bengaluru-Ernakulam Inter-City Express derailed in Karnataka early Friday train accident, said a state minister.

Speaking to IANS over phone from Bengaluru, state Electricity Minister Aryadan Mohammed, who led a team of state government officials to the neighbouring state, said that all arrangements are being made for the transportation of the bodies.

"Eight other Keralites were injured and hospitalised in a hospital in Bengaluru. Out of them, two have been discharged," said Mohammed.

Mohammed was deputed to go to the accident site as soon as the news of the accident came in.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy had earlier announced immediate relief of Rs.25,000 to the families of the dead and the injured and said the next cabinet meeting will decide the compensation that will be given.
