The death toll in the building collapse here rose to five with rescue workers retrieving one more body from the debris on Friday evening, officials said.

More than 24 hours after the collapse of seven-storey under construction building in Nanakramguda area, rescue work continued for seven more missing persons.

Using earth movers, gas cutters and other equipment, rescue workers including National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams retrieved five bodies Friday.

The dead include three women including a mother and her daughter.

The construction workers and their families hailing from Vijayanagaram district in Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh were asleep when the building collapsed on Thursday.

Rekha, a construction worker from Chhattisgarh and her three-year-old son Deepak, were pulled out alive from the rubble and shifted to a hospital. Her husband is still missing.

Municipal Administration Minister K.T. Rama Rao announced Rs 10 lakh ex gratia each to the families of the dead. He said the government would provide best medical treatment to the injured.

Admitting that the administration is responsible for not taking action against the builder who was constructing the building without permissions, the minister announced suspension of a deputy commissioner of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corp (GHMC) and an assistant town planning officer.

Cyberabad Police Commissioner Sandeep Shandilya said a case under Section 304 A (causing death by negligence) and 304 Part II (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) was booked against builder Satyanarayana, who was absconding.
