Five killed in Iraq violence

Five people were killed in separate bombings and shootings across Iraq Saturday, police said.

In the eastern province of Diyala, two people were killed and nine wounded, including three children, when a roadside bomb went off near a house in the town of Maqdadiyah, some 100 km northeast of the capital Baghdad, a provincial police source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

In the northern city of Kirkuk, gunmen shot dead a soldier and wounded another in the southwestern part of the city, located some 250 km north of Baghdad, a local police source told Xinhua.

In another northern city of Mosul, gunmen stormed the house of a traffic police officer and shot him dead in al-Shifaa neighbourhood in the western part of the city, some 400 km north of Baghdad, a local police source who did not want to be named told Xinhua.

 

Near Baghdad, a roadside bomb struck a police patrol in Abu Ghraib area, some 25 km west of Baghdad, killing a policeman and wounding two others, a police source said.
