The Indian Coast Guard on Wednesday said it has shifted over 150 marooned people in Chennai since Tuesday night, and they were provided with food cooked aboard Coast Guard ships.
In a statement issued here, the Coast Guard said a 23-member team led by two officers were involved in rescue efforts in Chennai with four rubberized inflatable boats.
Over 1,000 people stranded at different locations were provided with food cooked on board Coast Guard ships.
Additional food was being prepared for distribution, the Coast Guard said.
According to the coastal security agency, helicopters have been requested from Goa and Mumbai for dropping food packets in inaccessible areas.
