Famed Kolkata football club Mohammedan Sporting on Thursday bestowed the honour of 'Shan-E-Mohammedan' to renowned former midfielder Pradip Talukdar.

The prolific footballer once graced the field with his brilliant footballing skills and was a household name in the 1980s.

He plied his trade with popular clubs like East Bengal and Mohun Bagan too, but he was a talisman for Mohammedan where he played for six years.

"It is a great day for me, I am honoured," the 55-year-old Talukdar said after receiving the memento and a cash prize of Rs.1 lakh.

Talukar was also instrumental in winning the Federation Cup in 1984-85 for the black and white jerseys, when they beat East Bengal 1-0 in the finals.

He also turned up for the national team in the 1988 Nehru Cup.

Talukdar was given the award during the Iftar celebrations at the Khudiram Anusilan Kendra where Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Lok Sabha member Tapas Paul and club president Sultan Ahmed were present.
