DMK president M. Karunanidhi said Tuesday the people of Tamil Nadu are wondering whether the central government considers Sri Lanka's friendship more important than their welfare.

In a statement issued here, Karunanidhi said the central government should respect the sentiments of people of Tamil Nadu and also consider Tamils as part of India and announce cancellation of training programme for Lankan armed personnel.

Referring to news reports about India and Sri Lanka enhancing naval cooperation, Karunanidhi said India should revoke its decision to train Lankan navy and announce it publicly.

Referring to the central government's contention that Sri Lanka is a friendly nation, Karunanidhi asked is not Tamil Nadu part of India and should not the people's sentiments be respected?
