Car-maker Ford India and two-wheeler manufacturer Eicher Motors Ltd on Tuesday said they have restarted partial operations at their plants here.

In a statement, Ford India said manufacturing operations at its Chennai plant resumed engine assembly on Monday.

"The vehicle assembly operations will remain closed until our team can complete an impact assessment of our facilities and those of our suppliers. Our focus remains on the safety of our employees, and we will carefully assess the situation to ensure the safe resumption of operations," it said.

Eicher Motors said production at its two plants -- at Thiruvottiyur here and Oragadam near here -- was resumed on Tuesday.

"Due to a high incidence of absenteeism by our employees, and issues with our local suppliers, we will be running at approximately 50% capacity this week, and plan to be back to 100% capacity by next week," Eicher Motors said.

The company said prima facie there was no damage to the equipment or property and all its employees were safe.

"We have had production loss of 7,200 motorcycles due to the closure of both our manufacturing facilities between December 1-6, 2015. Many parts of the supply chain still continue to be affected due to the aftermath of floods. Due to rains, we lost production of 4,000 motorcycles in November," the company said.

The two companies stopped operating their plants owing to torrential rains and floods.
