Ford India on Friday announced a recall of 16,444 units of its sports utility vehicle (SUV) EcoSport to inspect the rear twist beam bolt.
Ford India said in some EcoSport models, there was a possibility of the rear twist beam bolt may not be tightened to specification, which may cause the pivot bolt to break.
The units that are potentially affected were those EcoSport models rolled out of its plant near here between November 2013 and April 2014.
"This condition can potentially compromise vehicle handling and thereby increase the risk of an accident. This is a proactive voluntary action and no accidents related to the concern have been reported," Ford India said in a statement.
According to the statement, Ford India is writing to 16,444 EcoSport customers for getting their vehicles inspected at a local Ford India dealer. If needed, Ford dealership will carry out necessary rework free of cost.
