American automobile maker Ford Motor Company's first Indian plant near here has rolled out its one millionth vehicle, the company's Indian subsidiary said on Thursday.
In a statement issued here, Ford India said its EcoSport model was the one millionth vehicle that rolled out of its assembly line on Wednesday.
"Chennai is from where we started our make in India journey," said executive director, manufacturing, Balasundaram Radhakrishnan, in the statement.
Ford India's $1 billion manufacturing facility at Chennai started commercial production 16 years ago in 1999 and today makes the company's globally-renowned nameplates Ford EcoSport, Ford Fiesta and Ford Endeavour.
The first model rolled out of the Chennai plant was the Ford Ikon, and the first car was bought by N. Srinivasan, managing director of India Cements.
