Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) see Indian markets offering immense potential for investment, and whatever concerns they have over taxation and other issues will be looked into, Economic Affairs Secretary Shaktikanta Das said here on Tuesday.
"The FPIs are looking at bigger opportunities for investing in the Indian market. So the overall outlook is very, very positive," Das said after a meeting with some 40 top foreign funds, along with key financial sector regulators.
"Suggestions were made both in terms of process simplification. Some new suggestions have also come. Some taxation issues were also raised," Das said, adding: "We will examine and look at all the suggestions they have made."
The top finance ministry official said that the issues raised would be discussed internally with officials from the Department of Revenue, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and the Reserve Bank of India -- all of which were represented at the meeting.
A similar exercise is expected with domestic funds.
