Xu Caihou, former vice chairman of China's Central Military Commission who was under investigation for one of the biggest corruption scandals in the country's armed forces, died of bladder cancer on Sunday, Xinhua news agency reported on Monday.

According to China's Criminal Procedure Law, military prosecutors decided not to sue Xu any more, but would deal with his illegal gains according to law, said a statement from the military procuratorate.

Military prosecutors finished investigation of Xu's graft case on October 27 last year and started the procedure to file the case.

Xu was also expelled from the Communist Party of China and discharged from military service with his rank as general revoked.

Xu was found taking advantage of his position to assist the promotion of other people, accepting huge amounts of bribes personally and through his family.
