Thiruvananthapuram, April 19 (IANS) CPI-M leader and former Kerala finance minister Thomas Issac was Friday arrested with 70 others as they staged a protest in front of the state secretariat. A local court sent all of them to judicial custody for a day.
Issac led a march of the workers who had come to the secretariat to press their demands which have so far gone unanswered by the state government.
After they cordoned off one entrance, the protesters were arrested and taken to a police camp here. As they refused to take bail, they were produced before the court.
In the court, the magistrate told them that they can take bail but Issac and the others refused and pointed out that they would want their problems to be resolved and would not mind going to jail.
Following this, the magistrate sent all of them to a day in judicial custody. They were then shifted to the Thiruvananthapuram sub-jail.
