Five persons, including a former Ola taxi driver, have been arrested for carjacking an Ola cab here, the city police said on Tuesday.

A senior police officer told IANS that the five were arrested from different parts of the National Capital Region (NCR) on Monday.

The five men have been identified as Rajesh Kumar Mehta, 34, Puneet, 32, Deepak, 28, Rajesh Sharma, 40, and Neeraj Sharma, 30 -- all residents of Delhi.

On Friday, three persons hired an Ola cab from GTB Nagar Metro Station of north Delhi and hijacked it after tying up the driver, said Deputy Commissioner of Police Milind Mahadeo Dumbere.

Dumbere said the carjackers wanted to make quick money by selling the cabs as a private vehicle.

The police said apparently this was the first time that the accused had hijacked a vehicle. They are investigating whether any more persons were involved in the crime.

The police have recovered the stolen Maruti Swift Dzire car, two fake number plates used by the accused and a bag of the driver from whom the car was taken away.
