Four people were arrested in connection with a Rs 30-lakh ATM robbery at Rohtak in Haryana, police said on Saturday, adding the accused worked with an ATM cash management firm and they set the machine on fire.

"The case has been solved within 24 hours and Rs 27.50 lakh has been recovered from their possession," a police department spokesman said here on Saturday.

"On the night of February 8, three persons on a motorcycle had doused the ATM at Gandhi Camp with petrol and set it alight. The fire had gutted the ATM and the adjoining shop" a police spokesperson said.

A case in this regard was registered under sections 392, 427 and 436 of the Indian Penal Code on a complaint by Neeraj Kumar Coordinator AGS Transact Technologies Limited, the firm which was hired by the bank to replenish cash in its ATMs.

The police said the accused set the ATM on fire to make it look like an act of arson by Jat agitators who are on a protest in many districts of Haryana since January 29.

"While the incident was earlier suspected to be a part of the ongoing agitation in the state, investigations revealed that the arson was a cover-up for robbery committed by the four accused," he pointed out.

The accused are Arun Yadav, Balraj, Sukhvinder and Jaibeer. All of them are employees of AGS Transact Technologies Limited.

"While Arun Yadav and Balraj used to replenish cash in the ATM, Sukhvinder and Jaibeer worked as gunmen for the firm. They had been working for the firm for about three years," the spokesman said.

They were supposed to keep Rs 8 lakh in the ATM at Gandhi Camp, they kept only Rs 4.50 lakh.

"Their records reflected that they had deposited Rs 34 lakh in the ATM. The same night, Balraj, Sukhvinder and Jaibeer visited the ATM and set it alight," the spokesman said.

A local court has remanded them to a four-day police custody.
