At least four people were killed and 19 others wounded in two bomb attacks in the Iraqi capital city of Baghdad Sunday, a police source said.

A car parked near the Al Derwish intersection in southwestern Baghdad exploded during the passage of Hussein procession in the afternoon, leaving two people killed and 10 others wounded, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

The source added that a second car bomb went off near a checkpoint in the Al Sadoun Street in central Baghdad late in the day, killing two and wounding nine others, and the death toll could rise as ambulances and police vehicles evacuated the casualties to hospitals.

Iraq has been witnessing some of the worst violence in years. Terrorism and violence have killed 5,576 civilians in Iraq in the first half of this year, with 11,666 more wounded, according to a recent UN report.
