Fragment of lost Russian spacecraft found

The Russian Emergencies Ministry announced that a fragment of the Russian Progress MS-04 cargo spacecraft, which was lost during launch on Thursday, was found in the territory of the Russian republic of Tuva on Mongolia's border.

Russian news agency RIA Novosti reported that the fragment is .

The fragment -- a metal object with a 90-cm diameter -- was found on the side of a mountain, about 15 km from the town of Eilig-Jem by an inhabitant from the area, who notified the authorities, Efe news agency reported.

The freighter lost contact just minutes after its launch from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan as it flew at a height of 190 km, while most of the vehicle disintegrated after coming into contact with the atmosphere.

 

The spaceship was supposed to provide the International Space Station crew with 2.6 tons of water, food and various technical equipment.
