A court has ordered the framing of charges against a man who was arrested for molesting and assaulting a woman from northeast India.
Additional Sessions Judge Rajnish Bhatnagar ordered trial against Kamal under various sections of the Indian Penal Code including outraging the modesty of a woman, voluntarily causing hurt, assaulting a woman with an intention to disrobe her and wrongfully restraint.
As per police, Kamal had passed lewd comments and forcibly restrained the woman when she was returning home with her brother here in February this year.
Another man, Manpreet was also charged with wrongful restraining the woman. Manpreet was accompanying Kamal and had allegedly blocked the her way and he also threatened her when she tried to call police.
The court, however, discharged the both the men from charges of passing casteist remarks against the woman and her brother, punishable under provisions of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) ActT.
On Feb 28, the woman registered a complaint with police that when she was returning home with her cousin at night, she was teased by the accused who began passing lewd comments and castiest remarks at both of them.
When her cousin asked Kamal to refrain from using derogatory words, the accuses beat him up till he fainted.
