Crystal Palace on Monday announced the appointment of Dutch Frank de Boer as coach of the English Premier League side on a three-year contract until 2020.

The 47-year-old Dutchman, former player with Barcelona, Ajax Amsterdam and Galatasaray, is to succeed Sam Allardyce, who left the English club at the end of last season, reports Efe.

The former Dutch international has not been working since November, when he was dismissed after only 85 days at Inter Milan.

De Boer previously trained Ajax for five seasons, when he won four Eredivisie titles.

"I am thrilled to be appointed as manager of Crystal Palace Football Club," the Dutch coach said, according to the club's official website.

"It is a great honour to take charge of such a historic club, a club that is known around the world for its hugely proud and passionate fan base," De Boer declared.

The Dutch coach added that his new role is "a hugely exciting opportunity" and he is looking forward to starting work with the Premier League side.

"We have undertaken a thorough interview process to ensure we are in a position to appoint a manager of the caliber and experience that Frank brings with him," Eagles chairman Steve Parish said.

"I am pleased to welcome him to Crystal Palace and I know he cannot wait to get started and prepare for our record breaking fifth season in the top flight," Parish added.

Crystal Palace finished 14th in the Premier League 2016/17 season.
