The Free Syrian Army (FSA) has announced that it will not attend the Geneva II conference on Syria, stressing that it will keep fighting until the downfall of President Bashar al-Assad.
The FSA's commander, breakaway General Salim Idriss, said Tuesday that his group would not join the peace talks at the proposed Geneva II conference, slated for Jan 22, Xinhua reported citing France 24 TV.
Idriss further stressed that the FSA will continue fighting the government troops in Syria when the conference is under way until the ouster of Assad, it added.
If true, the conference would not result in any concrete result to solve the crisis in Syria as the government troops would have to respond to the FSA's attacks.
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon had announced Monday that he would convene the conference on Syria in Geneva Jan 22, 2014.
