In protest against farmer suicides, farmers not getting minimum support price as well as spiraling prices, 11 Left Front affiliated peasants organisations will on Thursday take out a march to the West Bengal secretariat, Nabanna.

Madan Ghosh, state president of All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS), the peasants front of Communist Party of India-Marxist, said people from across the districts will assemble at four points - two in the city and two in the neighbouring Howrah district- from where they will march to Nabanna.

"At least two to three lakh people from across the state will assemble for the rally and we will march towards Nabanna pressing for our 17 points demands which includes rehabilitation of farmers ruined by the recent floods, addressing the problems of farmer suicides, as well as the spiraling prices," Ghosh told media persons here Wednesday. Besides the AIKS, peasant fronts of the Forward Bloc, Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) and the Communist Party of India (CPI) among others would participate in the march.

However, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, now on a three-day visit to Darjeeling hills, won't be available at the state secretariat.

"We would have submitted our memorandum of demands to the chief minister, but her absence will not affect our programme. The rally is highlight the pathetic conditions of our farmers and the people of the state under this government," added Ghosh.

Leader of Opposition and CPI-M state chief Surjya Kanta Mishra, CPI-M Lok Sabha member Mohammad Salim among others would participate in the march.
