GAC-Toyota will recall 2,097 Highlander vehicles due to defective air bags, China's quality supervisor said Sunday.
GAC-Toyota is a joint venture founded by Guangzhou Automobile Group and Toyota Motor Corporation, Japan's largest automobile manufacturer.
The recall covers Highlander vehicles produced between May 20 and 29, 2013, Xinhua cited the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine as saying.
A defect was detected in the way the inflator and diffusor in curtain shield air bags have been assembled, which could cause insufficient inflation.
GAC-Toyota will check and replace the faulty parts free of charge.
