The BJP Friday announced that former party president Nitin Gadkari had been given the task of improving party's prospects for the forthcoming assembly polls in Delhi.

"BJP president Rajnath Singh has appointed Nitin Gadkari to pay spe cial attention to Delhi. He will be assisted by Navjot Singh Sindhu," BJP general secretary Ananth Kumar announced here.

There had been speculation over Gadkari's appointment as election in charge of Delhi.

While the BJP has chief ministerial candidates in three other states going to polls - Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, it has avoided projecting anyone in the capital.

Sections in the party feel that of the four poll-bound states, the party is least comfortable in Delhi, where it has lost successive assembly elections.
