Delhi Police on Thursday claimed to have busted a gang involved in 15 cases of burglary here. Two people were arrested.
Deputy Commissioner of Police R.A. Sanjeev said the arrested people have been identified as Abhishek alias Nishu, 22, a resident of New Roshan Pura area and Rafiq alias Pandit, 22, a resident of Deen Pur area.
"Due to the increasing number of incidents of day and night burglaries in west Delhi, a team of officers of special staff was constituted to develop criminal intelligence about the active and operating gangs in the area," he said.
"On August 19, acting on a tip-off a trap was laid and two members of the gang, who had come to meet their co-associate, were intercepted near the Delhi Public School situated in Dwarka area of Delhi. They tried to flee from the spot but were overpowered by police," he said.
"Twenty-six mobile phones, two domestic gas cylinders, two stolen solar batteries, eight wrist watches, gold and silver jewellery and a DVD player were recovered from their possession," police said.
During interrogation, Abhishhek and Rafiq told police that their gang had committed several burglaries and thefts in south and west Delhi.
Both accused were drug addicts and used to commit offence under the influence of drugs, the officer said. Raids were being conducted to arrest their other associates.
