He identified them as assistant commissioners Mohan Singh Dabas of the traffic police and Yad Ram of the Police Control Room (PCR).

"(They) have been suspended on my orders ... for dereliction of duty," he told a news conference.

He said deputy commissioners Prem Nath (Traffic) and Satyavir Singh Katara (PCR) had been asked to explain their conduct vis-a-vis the police failure, Khanna said.

Delhi Police has come under flak ever since six males raped a 23-year-old woman in a moving bus here Dec 16 and dumped her 40 minutes later along with her male friend, who was badly beaten.

The six accused, who have been arrested, were apparently drunk and on a joy ride. They had earlier robbed a man of Rs.7,000. But when he contacted police, they apparently failed to act.

Three constables - Kailash, Ashok and Sandeep, posted at Hauz Khas police station - were suspended Dec 22 for not taking action on Dec 16 night when Ramadhir, who was earlier robbed by the six accused, approached them.

The policemen on duty reportedly told Ramadhir to come next day to register his complaint. Ramadhir was robbed by the six men in the same luxury bus in which they raped the woman and beat up her male friend in Vasant Vihar area of south Delhi.

Police had also suspended Sub-Inspector Rajeshwar, head constable Inder Pal, constables Jagmal, Pardeep and Chottelal posted at Connaught Place police station as they were found absent during their duty hours when Home Secretary R.K. Singh made a surprise visit Dec 21 evening to check citizen safety.
