Mesut Ozil expressed satisfaction with Germany's 1-0 victory over the United States Thursday, a result that earned both teams a place in the World Cup round of 16 from Group G.

The 25-year-old midfielder said the team had only one aim after topping Group G -- to win the World Cup.

"We are very happy," Ozil told Xinhua.

"We are now in the round of 16 and we are happy now. We will give our best in the next game. We are here because we want to win the World Cup."

Thursday's result means Germany will play the runners up of Group H in the tournament's first knockout round in Porto Alegre June 30.

Ozil was lively on the right of midfield and played a part in Thomas Muller's 55th minute winner.

The playmaker's corner was headed goalward by his Arsenal teammate Per Mertesacker, drawing a smart save from goalkeeper Tim Howard. Muller then drove in the rebound with a low shot from distance.

Ozil covered more than 10 km during the match, completing 54 passes and managing two shots on goal.
