The benchmark DAX index at Frankfurt Stock Exchange went down slightly and closed at 10,217.03 points.
Investors were in a mood of profit taking after days of gains, according to local analysts. The blue-chip DAX index lost 70.65 points, or 0.69 percent on Wednesday, Xinhua news agency reported.
The two utilities companies EON and RWE took the lead of the risers, up by 3.53 percent and 2.83 percent each. Vonovia, a real estate company, rose by 0.5 percent.
On the other hand, Commerzbank lost 2.22 percent. Volkswagen slipped by 1.83 percent. Deutsche Bank fell by 1.8 percent. ProSiebenSat1 Media dropped by 1.71 percent. Continental slipped by 1.59 percent.
Bayer was the most traded share of the day with a turnover of 203.46 million euros (around $231.08 million).
