A husband and wife committed suicide in Ghaziabad by hanging themselves from the ceiling fan of their bedroom, police said on Tuesday.
The incident which occurred on Monday night came to light on Tuesday morning in Govindpuri locality when other family members checked their room.
According to police, Kripa Shankar (36) was living in a rented accommodation in Govindpuri with his wife Aarti (32), daughter (9) and son (7) and parents.
Kripa Shankar's father Lalji Verma said his son was addicted to liquor. And Kripa Shankar and his wife would often quarrel over his drinking habit.
Kripa Shankar was employed at a private factory but was not earning much. He would often return home drunk which made his wife angry, the father said.

"On Monday, Kripa Shankar returned late once again. He went into his bedroom on the first floor. On Tuesday morning, when none of them came down, I checked and found both of them hanging from the ceiling fan in the room," Verma said.
Police said initial probe had revealed that when Kripa Shankar came late on Monday night, he found his wife hanging from the ceiling fan. In an inebriated condition, he too then hanged himself.
"A case has been registered and the bodies of the couple have been sent for post-mortem," said Ajay Pal, superintendent of police, City.
