The city of Ghaziabad is witnessing an unprecedented power crisis. Out of 24 hours, the city is receiving only 12-13 hours of power supply while the rural areas are enduring worse, an official said on Thursday.
Superintendent Engineer SB Yadav said: "Power supply from the central pool is not being supplied to us. The city's demand for power has shot up to 1,600 megawatt suddenly due to rise in temperature while it was constant at 1,400 megawatt last month."
"On Wednesday, the power grid collapsed due to fall in power frequency, so we had to curtail the supply in the city. The residents had to face the heat consequently," Yadav said.
The worst affected areas were the localities of Nehru Nagar, Patel Nagar, Raj Nagar, Kavi Nagar, Govid Puram in the city, and the localities of Vadsundhara, Vaishali, Indirapuram and Rajendra Nagar in trans-Hindon areas of the city.
