Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik and Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav led the Raksha Bandhan celebrations in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday.

At a function held at the Raj Bhavan, girls from various walks of life tied rakhis -- sacred thread -- on Naik's wrist.

Among others, girls from Brahmakumari Ishwariya University and Princess Farzana of the royal family of Awadh also tied rakhis to the Governor.

Thanking all for coming to the Raj Bhavan on the occasion, Naik said he hoped that women and girls would get more security in society in days to come.

Later, a function was also held at Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav's official 5, Kalidas Marg residence where a large number of girls from different schools and some party workers tied rakhis on him.

Akhilesh Yadav wished the people of the state on the Hindu festival and said the festival reminded people of sacrifice, love and affection towards sisters.

The festival is being celebrated across the state with traditional fervour.
